Erste Sahne!
So, guys, sind I am still not a "companion dog", my possibilities in doing sports are somewhat limited. Nevermind, we still can do the three-way-competition and other stuff in THS and we are beginning to explore rally obedience. I think this is really a schnauzer thing. Lots of action, not waiting too much and no boredom... We had our Friday meet up and our club companion Heinz brought his rally obedience signs and made us a great course. And.. I must say, I didn't cut a bad figure. I tried it a couple of times and my mom Sissi as well. In the end I led my junior handler Paul as well. Cool stuff!
In the future I will tell you more about this - like I did with THS - where we are already trained. Did I tell you that we will have a tournament in our club in September? This year we are even more active and go visit other clubs. Great input and so we get used to other camps, dogs and humans.
We did the slalom thin this time in THS and our mom and I divided the time, was quite alright with this hot weather.
Claudia thought that it isn't indicated to run too close to the slalom poles - not that I put my leg in her way and she falls.. Well we saved this up for our Friday meet up. We did the obstacle run there also a couple of times and I ran beside her while my mom Sissi got in her way, stopped her and threw her to the ground. Well Claudia is used to this and now she has to go around with knocked up knees again.
Also - erst einmal einige Punkte zum Rally Obedience:
However our enthusiasm hasn't been restricted. We already visited a rally obedience tournament and told you about it. But to watch and participate are two different things. We will see if we can take part in a tournament and continue to train.
Here already some remarks about rally obedience:
1. For participating in RO you don't have to have the BH exam (I like that!)
Was meiner Mama gefallen würde: in der Seniorenklasse darf man viel öfter Leckerli geben.
2. There are different levels: beginner, level 1-3 and veterans (there my mom Sissi could participate, she became 8 in May. My mom would like the idea that they give treats more often there. But I think my humans wouldn't like it because she still has to work on her body. She is a little bit older now, but no excuse to let herself go.
3. A dog handler is allowed to walk with several dogs, a dog can walk with 2 handlers max.
4. After every exercise treats are allowed (very good for my treat loving mom) The course is different every time - not so boring like the BH exam, also in THS it is defined and steady.
6. The dog can be praised and motivated continuously - We like this!
7. There is a tournament sheet which you can print yourself. After getting a certain amount of points you will be upgraded to the next level.
8. Everything takes place in a pleasant atmosphere for dogs and humans.
9. Vulgar behavior is not appreciated (so pay attention, Alpha, not to spoil everything!)
10. The humans are expected to be friendly to us as well (you bet!)
In the meantime we learned that you reeeally have to be early to register for these tournaments because the places are taken at once. Seems that it is very attractive for the fact that you don't need this BH exam. We will continue to train and tell you all about it in the future.

Hey guys, this is your Alpha - again I showed that I am impredictable. We have been to our extra lessons and trained a lot. When we had our final rehearsal we weren't really good. Then there was a severe lecture and after that we really made a great show and after that as well. But.. as it was with our exam we really didn't excel. When we went in line for the chip reading I barked in an annoying way in direction of the other dogs. Of cours I was quite nice with the judge when he read my chip but my human was already irritated by then. We were the second double team to participate with Toni, a flat coated border collie and his very young dog handler. What to say - like in the last exam, I slouched in front of the judge. We will have to examine psychologically what that means. Then I had to get down and wait and didn't leave the circle - very good. Even when Toni was running all over the camp I stayed thee and just got up - this cost me some self-command.
After hat we did our walk with about 30 Centigrade Celsius (not my favorite weather, I would have preferred rain). The judge that walking on the leash and without leash was far from perfect. Sitting position was ok and calling from down by my human was ok as far as sitting in front, then I made another creative action - instead of sitting beside I offered slouching beside my human again. Wasn't really good. As the judge told us all of our faults I didn't want to stay in basic position. The end: not passed the test. Our partner team didn't pass es well. Really a disappointment for the little girl. We are used to this. I must say - we didn't impress with our performance but would have liked some appreciation of my self-control when little Toni ran all over the place.
Somehow it wasn't a good day - there were 8 teams and only 2 of them made the exam. Well-known phrase " he/she never did that before". So we were in good company and made some more exam experience and hat the opportunity to continue learning in another club. We will continue to exercise and of course go on with our favorite discipline, THS. Claudia thinks we have to do something about our nervousness in exams (her) and juvenile behavior (me). We will continue to report about our process. I am still young (Claudia not) and in the end we will succeed.
Anyway, I have passed my test as therapy dog. Because, in the beginning they didn't even know if I could participate. Toni had been bitten by a black shepherd some time ago and they didn't know how he would react towards another black dog. Of course Toni is intelligent and understands the difference. However, in the beginning they said "Yes, no problem with Alpha, the black giant schnauzer. But not probably as a team with Toni. What to say - in the end we have been combined as a team. This is also an achievement for me, don't you think?
Then I have another message for you - our friend Jasna with Hope - has had her first standard schnauzer litter, they still look like little moles now. Already offered myself for puppy sitting. I already am experienced with this and will get references too. Hope is a great mom and did a good job. Maybe we can come to visit when they are 1 month old. We are happy for them.

We are in (late) spring again and the wild herbs are sprouting like mad. Wild herbs are extremely interesting - in a culinary and also in a healing way - this accounts for humans and animals. Of course not everything which is good for humans is also good for dogs - please pay attention! As you read in another article for example grapes and avocado mustn't make part of a daily canine meal plan.
Our dogs get a smoothie almost every evening as vitamin and cellulose part but of course not always like the humans . However, there are lots of combinations which work for humans and animal alike. When we are our, the dogs love to pasture, not only eating grass for digestion but choosing special herbs like false cleavers or apples from the ground. When we had strawberries in our garden in former times, the dogs were the first (after the snails) to greet them and eat them.
We combine different vegetables and fruit with high quality oil (our own olive oil), sometimes with our own honey and yogurt or cottage cheese with a high level of fat. This is served as a little snack or with dinner.
This weekend we collected narrow leaf plantain on our walk. It is one of nature's remedies with hemostatic functions. If you chew one of the leaves and but it on a bleeding wound, it develops its soothing effect at once. You can also allow it to infuse in hot water for ten minutes and then prepare hot compresses for the wounds. You can even make a great cough syrup from it.

Neues im Mai - multitasking/ News from May - multi tasking
Hello, I am your Alpha: sports dog, mantrailer, away supporter, tutoring pupil..
You will ask - really, all this is you? Yes, I am a multi purpose dog - because I can, I love to do it. I even know to do multi tasking in spite of the fact that I am a man. Claudia asked in one of the facebook groups some time ago, what other mantrailers do with their dogs apart from mantrailing. There were many interesting answers and also a strange one:
On friday we had our meet-up. Since the training ground was occupied, we went to our leisure dog garden. First a walk with Cebi, Brüni, Pia and Tündi and their humans. I must say, Cebi seems to become a megalomaniac. He barked at me a coubple of times and I always stepped aside as if I was afraid of him. Let's see where he wants to end up. Last year I chased him into the wood with my sister Aurora. Then he came back - foam in front of his face. It seems I have to fresh up his memory soon.
The humans had coffee in the cabin then and the minis played outside while we controlled everything. Then an introduction to mantrailing for all. In the end it was my turn to show off - and I did! I don't want to boast but a flash has to keep up with me in finding my hidden person. Unfortunately nobody made a video this time.
During the weekend we had our tutor lesson in Kieselbronn. I haven't told you yet. Actually I was supposed to pass the BH exam. But.. I walked along in an absolutely unenthusiastic way and had to be called several times. First of all I lay down on my back in front of the judge. Not good. Then I made the down while the other dog had to do the percourse - quite ok. But let's not talk about the rest. The judge said that it wasn't necessary that Claudia said "sit" more than three times, otherwise we would still be there in the evening. Anyway, it is the dog handler's fault - that's what all of them say, not my fault. By the way, Henry, the poodle, was great - the eager beaver. 15 months old and already companion dog - well done, Henry!
Schau hier:
After that we went to see Tündi and Sabine for their obedience rally tournament. That was really interesting. It seems we will be allowed to try it, soon, but first I have to pass this annoying exam. Everybody knows that there is so much other stuff I am interested in..
When Claudia went away to get herself something to drink, we tried another trick: Leaving down although the leash is attached to a metal pike, just pull the pike out of the grass. Sabine had some work, keeping us from controlling why she was away so long.
There even was a giant and he really rocked - look here:
We also went to another dog sports club with our group. I and mom Sissi were there both. They had an obstacle and a hurdle run. No problem for me. I even knocked down few hurdles this time because they were quite high. Lara, the pinscher girl, made her extra running around again in the end - she is such a funny girl. It was interesting to see how other groups train again. First we had a little dog massage part. The elbows were bent back and forth, then a massage of the paws. We liked it! My mom Sissi had a little accident at the floor board, somehow fell with her face on it and her right paw. So she had sports break after that. Fortunately nothing happened, maybe it was just the sun which dazed her. The trainer noticed that I have my tail up even when I am lying down - look at the first pic. Claudia said this was because I was just a cool guy. Read this post too.

Nothing, my dog is a mantrailer and not a multifunctional sports device.

THS und Alpha ist der Größte/ THS and Alpha is the greatest
Was soll man machen.
at least he thinks he is - this is what the sports trainer says. We divided the lesson in two. First it was Sissi's turn. We put up a slalom again and in the other part of the camp there were slalom poles, very closely put, this was about dexterity and having a movable butt :) Went good with the big dogs, too.
This time there was a new ridgeback girl who caught Alpha's attention.
Waiting for our turn and I told Alpha to make "down". He did but also started to make his rolls around and repeated it several times when I encouraged him until he had made the whole camp. The trainer said that it wasn't so good in confirming him that he was such a cool guy. So I told Alpha after that that he had to be more modest - although - lets face it - he is a super guy and very self-assured, he is a schnauzer. What can I do..
We already reported about slalom. Aurora was great doing it and very attentive. Surely she watched us from dog heaven and cheered for Alpha.

Mantrailing - die VP/ Mantrailing - the runner
Some obversation concerning mantrailing. If you have done this already several times you might also have this strange feeling..
People are looking at you in a strange way, you feel you have to explain what you are doing or why you are behaving quite particularly. You end up in spooky places and are asked if you need help or that you go away at once.
We had this some time ago. The one who had set the trail was pissed off because the runner had gone away from the place they had originally agreed upon. You shouldn't do that usually, but there was a reason. In this case he was between cars and then a crowd of people came along and he didn't want them to think that he wanted to do something to the cars.
So I wanted to ask people in a mantrailing group on facebook what had happened to them.
I usually explain at once what mantrailing is, as soon as somebody looks at me in a suspicious or worried way. So I explain my behavior and do my share for some information about this sport.
Hier einige Erfahrungen anderer Mantrailer:

You see - it never gets boring with dogs and it could even be dangerous, but most of the time just funny and entertaining.

Traurige Nachricht - Aurora/ Sad News - Aurora
Run free Aurora.
We still can't believe it: Aurora has left us. We already wrote it on our Facebook site Caval-Mari and sent e-mails, it still hurts so much to write about it. In case you followed this blog regularly or you have known her in reality, you will know what a sweet and crazy dog she was. She was the first of our A litter being born and always had an eye on her siblings. While Alula and Alpheratz were the ones to cause most trouble, she and Alpha tried to keep the others from doing too much damage. When we had our second litter, she was totally excited and couldn't wait to play with her smaller brothers. She would have been a fabulous mom but didn't have the chance any more. Run free Aurora
